Personally reach out to the candidates in your district

Now is the time to reach out to all candidates for State Representative and State Senator in your district. They want to know what issues affect their candidates, so tell them! And what’s more, they want your support. They need people making phone calls for them and doing block walks for them. So offer! This is what YOU can provide to THEM. So see if they will support equal parenting. And if so, offer to help on their campaign. It’s that easy! If they do support equal parenting, let us know quickly and we will reach out to others in the district to let them know and to put you all in touch with each other. Also, once you establish a relationship with them, ask them if they would sign the TFRM Equal Parenting Pledge, to publically state their stance. (one individual told me he offered to get 10 supporters making calls and doing block walks for the rep in exchange for the signature on the pledge, and it worked!). And send us the pledge so we can share it 🙂

Publically reach out to the candidates in your district

So, once you find out who the candidates are in your districts (Senate and House Districts), look up their facebook pages, look up their webpages and also look up the political parties for the county you are in “Harris County Democratic Party”. Use these pages to find out when and where they will be at during public events. There will be town halls, debates, fundraiser.. you name it. Click on “Calendar” or “Events” links on the pages if it’s not posted on the front page. And then go to the events and publically ask them some questions, for instance:
“Would you support legislation that would allow children to have equal access to both their parents after divorce, assuming the parents are fit parents”
“The Texas family code says that a visitation order that allows a child to spend 4 days a month with their father (a standard possession order) is in the best interest of the child, do you agree? (If not) what would you do to remedy this? Would you support or even sponsor legislation that would allow children equal access to both parents?”
“Last session the 3rd most viewed and followed bill in Texas (according to Legisscan) was H.B.453 which would allow children to have equal access to both parents after a divorce or separation, would you have supported the bill? (or if they were in office last session) Did you support the bill?” Voting for a bill is not the only way they can support it, they can also co-sponsor a bill. Which just means they attach their name to it as a supporter before it even gets to the floor.
And very important! Have someone video you asking the question and the response so we can post it on the page!

Give us feedback that we can share with everyone.

Your feedback is important so we can let others know how your representative feels on the issue.
